Illuminate empty room

There are times when I need to illuminate an empty room with quite a low level of light.

Anyone know of a fitting that will turn a light on after there has been no movement detected within the room for a (user defined) period of time?

The ability to use energy saving lamps would be an additional benefit.

TIA

Skunkworks. :-)

Sure get a motion detector and use the OTHER side of the contacts. Or wire a separate relay to it with NC contacts and use those.

You could use a dawn/dusk sensor

The light switch for the room is at the other end from the door into the room.

With a small low energy bulb coming on when it's dark and there's been no-one in there for a while there's less chance of falling over something in the dark! A device with a timer on it to ensure that it doesn't turn the light on in the early hours would be ideal.

I think they need to be told!

If it's not too dim, how about the Osram LED Night Light. A very low power LED that plugs into a 13A socket and has a photocell sensor so it'll only be on in the dark. but cheaper from Ikea - if they still stock them.

So you really want a lamp with a PIR to switch on when someone enters the room and switches off when the lights are on.. any should do provided the photocell is sensitive enough to switch off once the lights are on. I have a small battery one from lidl for a similar job.. it was about £3 but I haven't seen them for a while.

2 way the light switch so you have a switch by the door.

Recently redecorated and access to the wiring from above isn't possible due to ceramic tiles on the floor.

Called occupancy sensors, famously slagged by Glenda Jackson when she was an MP because her office had one, after a period working at her desk she had to do a `light dance` to switch the lights back on.

No, that is the opposite of what the OP asked for, however it seems the OP has been persuaded that in fact an alternative solution is better.
