Ikea forgot to tell me

I've put up 6 Ikea wall cupboards, following the instructions meticulously, and now comes the last step - attaching the pull handles. But Ikea forgot to tell me where to put these. The cupboards are 50cm above the working surface. The doors are completely plain (white), 40cm wide by 60cm high. Where exactly should I put the handles?

(I've become addicted to precise algorithmic instructions since falling under the spell of Ikea manuals - I have reached step 19, so where is step 20 ...?)

upto you - make a template once you've decided.

The usual place is near the opposite side from the hinges (of course!) and a few inches up from the bottom. Offer one up, and see what looks and feels right to those who will be using the cupboards the most. That's what we did with our (non-IKEA) cupboards.

Obviously, once you've decided on one, the rest need to match!

Timothy Murphy explained :

Not Ikea, but our doors came with a dimple on the back, where they needed drilling.

Just as well you didn't want the handles somewhere else, eh?

Pfft. Conformist!

Scatter 'em around and show your individuality. ;-)

The online catalogue isnt a great deal of help either

as most are shown without any handles at all.

Maybe on some designs handles are optional as you can grip the door by an edge.

You haven't told us what kind of handles you have, or how these new cupboards relate to the rest of the kitchen.

My ikea wardobe doesn't have vhandles you push where the handle would be and the springy latch behind clicks and the door pushes forward opening a little.

could get a bit confusing on a run of kitchen units...

Why?

cos you wouldn;t know which side of the door was hinged and which was the side to push....

On the outside is generally best.

why, either you know what's in teh cupbaords or you don't the sort of handle or lack of one wouldn;t make much differnce woulkd it ?

You're asking us where to put them? [cough]

You could look at the photos on IKEA's web site, or in their printed catalogue if they still do such a thing, to give you a rough idea. Use a paper template to ensure uniformity.
