How to save a table?

If none of the other suggestions work, a nice table cloth would hide it and help to reduce any further damage in the future.

Depends on the surface. We had an office refit and someone specified or used the wrong laminate for all the whiteboards built into the cube walls. Even the ink from dry marker pens couldn't be removed properly.

is a harmless citrus cleaner. I originally bought it for cleaning thermal compound off a cpu, but since then found it cleans absolutely everything. My wife uses it constantly.

I have some permatex fast orange hand cleaner (from asda or lidl) that I have used to remove stuff from varnished wood and laminates before. It feels slightly abrasive but I think they are softish bits and don't scratch the surface AFAICS.

It uses citrus in its formulation.

So would being semi-civilised and decanting the set meal for two onto plates in the kitchen before serving.
