Home "cloud" space server thing...

Background: Having made a tech. support call to Zen yesterday after both ADSL lines went down I was alerted to a worrying disproportionate upload consumption... For the last 5 or 6 weeks my measly 1Mbps upstream has been uploading close to 10GB a day, every day !

P2P has always been blocked by router and WiFi never turned on... finally found the "rarely used" GoogleDrive was "Synchronising" stuff the never changes ! hmmmm..

General thoughts by coding chums is it's a bug rather than anything more sinister (which would be more discrete than a constant sync." but in light of this I was wondering if there is an almost "out of the box" linux option that could replace dropbox for automated mobile phone uploads etc etc? (Android app)

I have a spare static IP address I could assign so blocking every port except 80 (or whatever) and just leave it plugged into fibre @ home.

or has anyone tried the "Western Digital My Cloud" option? I vaguely recall it being plagued with security issues in the past.

TIA as always. :) Pete@

Doesn't it do the sync stuff for any flavour of iThingy "out of the box"?
