gurgling basin

Fit a restricter immediately below the plug. Anything which will fit and reduce the diameter and is made of plastic or brass or non rusting stuff will do.

Is there a way I can do somthing to reduce the gurgling noise from water going down the plug in a bathroom handbasin? It's right next to our bedroom and is TOO LOUD :-) thanx

Fit an air admitance valve in the waste pipe or replace the trap with a trap with integral air admitance valve.

Just make sure everythings there when you buy it, some durapipe stuff we had delivered at work (Vulcathene mechanical) was missing the end adaptors, without which it cannot be fitted at all, Durapipe however have redeemed themselves by shipping the parts overnight direct....it was a manufacturing oversight....

This is called a "Gurglemaster" iirc and can be bought from wickes. I fitted one for a kitchen sink as the washing machine outlet casued the noise when water was being sucked from the sink waste trap. Works like a dream.

I replaced the bottle trap on a basin with an identical trap with integral air admitance valve, as the same waste pipe was to have a condensing boiler drain plumbed in, and I didn't want the washbasin to be able to empty the trap in the boiler. If you look closely at it, you can see it sucked open when a basin full of water finishes emptying, with no gurgling and almost no effect on the boiler condensate U-trap.

I found several basins with pedestals that can't take a bottle trap :-(

Thanks to all for the advice. I went to wicks this afternoon - bought a "gurgle thing" (which I didn't know existed before) and fitted it. Works brilliantly! The only problems was that I had to angle the trap output to one side (as the extra length hit the wall) and add a flexible downpipe to join up with the waste

- which is directly below. Ok it sticks out the side a bit - but I don't care - I'm so happpyyy. Thanks again.
