Gritish Bas

Sister in law has just noticed a small leak of water getting into the airing cupboard, directly below the water tank in the loft.

She has this Gritish Bas service contract, so she called them.

Alleged plumber looked in the loft, sharp intake of breath, "we don't do tanks, we sub contract that to Dyno Rod".

Dyno Rod FFS?

Dyno Rod bloke arrives later on, looked in the loft, sharp intake of breath, "can't touch that luv - it's asbestos".

He was brave enough to lift the lid & peep in, reckoned its the ball valve dripping, no comment on why the overflow isn't working properly.

£450 to replace the tank etc, plus "we will have to get the asbestos experts in" which could add another £400 apparently.

I'm going round tonight....

I'm using one of those to retain spent potting compost from the greenhouses:-)

and yes... It is listed on my *asbestos location plan*!

Dyno Rod and other Dyno franchises are owned by Centrica, Gritish Bas's parent.

Then there is the issue of getting it out as its bigger than the loft door...

True pros just leave it in the loft.

The worst tank I tried to remove was a galvanised one that was installed before the airing cupbaoard door frame went in.

In the end I did not remove it. I saw it leave the house about 3 hours after passing the gf's dad walking up the stairs armed with a pig hammer and various saws whilst saying "I'll get the bastard out in no time".

I've just removed a redundant header tank from the roof space in the flat - it required removing the wall as the access hatch was bearly big enough to squeeze myself through. But, I'd already decided to flooring down in the roof space anyway and needed a larger hole to get the floorbaords in.

Now my problem is the huge piles of 100-year-old soot and dust that's tumbling out of every nook and cranny.

I replaced a slate tank a few years ago. Rebated joints stuck together with some pinkish goo. I couldn't get it put of the loft so it stayed there until I had the roof redone some years later.
