Glow worm vs Vaillant?

Glow worm vs Vaillant? I am being told to buy a Glow Worm, as it's cheaper and made by the same company using the same parts. That seems unlikely - any comments please?

Glowworm are part of the Vaillant group now. There are certainly plenty of similarities in layout and component design of the latest models, although the differences are (slightly) deeper than simply being straight replications of Vaillant models with a different badge on the front.

The glowworm manuals are possibly slightly better and less Germanic.

The system configuration options are probably a bit different as well. So you may find there are some system configurations supported by one brand and not the other. For example, its not immediately obvious if the GW system boiler has as much native support for multiple heating zones as you get with the Vaillant. Having said that, if you are not planning on anything complex then, that may make no difference.

Nothing complex, so maybe GW is okay then? Seems to be a lot cheaper. :)

You will be fine with the GW :) An installer I know who has worked for Group Service (Vaillant And Glowworm service and repair division) also recommends GW. I don't know if you have ever seen, but the Group Service vans will have Vaillant written on one side and Glowworm on the other!

A caveat, do not use their own 'Smart wiring' system. It is rubbish. The controllers do not recoginise any dates after 2011, and Glowworm are refusing to admit there is a fault, even though their own engineers know exactly what to do when they arrive on site - they just reset the date to 2010 or earlier. We have had this a number of times, and each time the Tech. helpline refuses to believe us that it is a widespread fault, and they say an Engineer will have to fix it. We refuse to fit them now (the controllers) If the 'bug' has been fixed, I would still avoid it, as it is just far too complicated for something that should be really simple.

The boilers are pretty reliable, and easy to fit. 5 year guarantee, so long as it is serviced each year.
