Getting Plastered!...

SWMBO has changed her mind on how she wants a large doorway finished off from some years ago there was going to be a large double door there but now an open space is required..

Hence the plaster metal single angles have been knocked of and the right angle ones have been fixed where required.

However there was quite an area where the original person who did the plastering on that with sand /cement render where this has come away from what once was external brickwork so it didna stick to it too well..

Anything better than standard sand and cement mix such as Carlite browning or bonding then finished of with multi finish or would most here just pile multi finish on anyway?....

Cheers...

Bonding will stick to almost anything -- it's got glue in it. However, being gypsom based, it won't survive any damp in the wall. Builders usually use sand and cement (with a waterproofer) to prevent damp coming through to the plaster finish coat, so are you sure the wall behind doesn't have any damp in it? That could be why the builder used sand and cement.

The usual reason a builder uses sand and cement is because when doing alterations in blockwork, that is what he has to hand, and he aint a plasterer.

Bonding is what is indicated here.

This was an external wall its now internal but there has never been a problem with damp so it looks like Carlite bonding is the one..

Thanks:)..

If you're putting the bonding on thick? it would be also be worth taking into consideration dot&dab method, because the plaster board is cheaper than a bag of bonding coat and also quicker and easier.

Well this is in a hallway and its likely to get knocked from time to time what with some of the animals that live here;)..

And cost isn't that big an issue its more some of the "awkward" bits that have to be done...

We did that in another garage room converted into an office with plasterboard, well wall broad, with insulation on the back if it and very good its been too..
