Gauze filter for Torbeck valve?

We have a Torbeck valve in an old panel cistern in out bathroom. No room to replace it with anything else, and hopefully it'll only have to last another year or so.

The gauze filter has disintegrated, and we are getting the usual problems with grit in the thing.

I've Googled and only found one place that sells them...about 2 quid (fair enough) but £12.50 postage unless I spend 25 quid!

Does anyone know a good place to try? I've never seen them in sheds...

BTW, the place with the extortionate charges, for future reference, is MyTub Ltd.

They won't be my first choice for anything!

The last resort is to but a new valve and nick the filter out of it...

What does it look like?

My local independant hardware store does 3/4" appliance washers with built-in gauze for somewhere around a quid each. Is it just a 1/2" version of one of those?

My multipoint instant water heater also has something like this, but the gauze in that case is a 1" long cone which goes in the supply pipe (presumably to increase the filter surface area).

It's a small cone on a plastic frame.

Could you just ditch it, and fit a filter washer on the inlet, such as 13757 halfway down

apart unless I have to...it's all very tight, inaccessible and a mess...at least for a year or so.
