Gas Installation

Yehbut if paying top dollar you're entitled to expect good workmanship all the time. This patently ain't the case with BG.

There are three issues here:

The installation of the cooker by a professional should not take more than an hour unless there are complications (usually the cooker does not fit).

The second issue the comet delivery workers should not be installing gas cookers unless they are registered, which is unlikely as cooker installs are only part of their workload and/or they are simply not in that league.

Thirdly, I have much anecdotal evidence based on the number of times I have been called to install and cooker/washer/dishwasher after someone has been 'let down' by Comet. It's time that someone brought Comet or their delivery agents to book on this matter. It would be better if instead of

'we forgot the tools' 'we're not insured' 'we haven't got some extra fittings' etc. Comet squared up and said either "we don't install and here are a list of numbers of local installers" or they did the installation correctly. Taking money when they have no intention of delivering on the services is essentially theft.

They will connect to a suitable existing point providing all the installation instructions and gas regs can be met to the letter, its in the terms and conditions but peeps never read them. They moan that it cant be fitted because the hood above is too low or cupboards too low etc etc. The installer is there to do the connection not rebuild the kitchen or move walls, cupboards, socket outlets etc. People should understand that it is both dangerous and illegal to connect unless it meets all the requirements down to the mm and that extra work to do this is not part of the connection there is no discretion.

And how would a Comet delivery man know that?

If Comet fit a gas cooker it is done by a registered person. Who that person may be a member of the van delivery team or by follow up by a subcontractor.

I find it hard to believe Comet would pay for CORGI registered van drivers.

Well report your suspicions to trading standards and corgi if you seriously believe that such a large retailer would knowingly break the law and leave themselves open to prosecution or even manslaughter charges.

No need. Comet sell returns as new stock. I would never go there.

There is no way they can legally fit the cooker as they are not supplied with the hoses let alone with the hoses fitted. As they are being paid they must be registered and there is no way that the delivery guys are registered (even if comet as a company is).

And how do you know ? I know one guy who works for them having left my company and he is.
