your common or garden 100l ish freezer now typically uses 200-240Kwh/year.

As mine seems to use about 300 units more than this at the moment, I was wondering what the test conditions were.

its only 10p a unit after the first 600 - 700 kw per year

Mines a flat 9.77p.

But my bill yesterday said we had used an extra 490 units in the last quarter!

Got to track it down somehow and eliminate it.

Yes, assuming that the test conditions are valid.

And it's more like 3-4. I'm currently looking at an a+ fridge/freezer combo, which would pay back in maybe 5, but reclaim space.

Ebico, and the 9.77 is ex-vat. The figure varies from area to area, some are cheaper.

It does make it easier to calculate your bill, even if it gives you heart failure when you see a surge in consumption!
