Fridge freezer - how to remove top front panel (Bosch KGV3120GB/04 UK model)

Can anyone tell me how to remove the top front panel from this fridge freezer.

I am referring to the panel which contains the temperature and on/off switches. It is approximately 60cm wide by 5cm high by 4cm deep and runs across the top of the fridge freezer above the fridge door.

I need to replace the switch which operates the interior light. This is housed inside the top front panel - and is operated by the movement of the door. The panel must pull out or hinge out or something - but I cannot see how. There are two screws visible when I open the door - these screws are underneath and rise vertically into the top front panel. After I have removed the screws, the panel is slightly loose but does not seem to "want" to come out willingly. Two years ago, an engineer replaced this same switch. He did it in about two minutes, so it must be really easy - but I do not want to force the panel and cause damage.

Grateful for advice on what I have to do - rotate, pull, or what. I have searched in vain for other screws.

There is a diagram provided by parts supplier BSH Appliance Care

On my freezer there are a couple of plastic blind rivits holding the panel. To remove these you push in the centre pin, *only* part way in, otherwise the pin goes right through and gets lost in the freezer inards.

I have now replaced the switch, which was an easy task. This is what I did: Switch off power. To remove the top front fascia panel.

  1. Unscrew two vertical screws (white with cross heads).
  2. Use finger nails to ease up the rear edge of the fascia panel along its entire length - it "sits" across the top of the fridge.
  3. Carefully rotate the fascia panel so that it can rest on top of the fridge (it has cables leading to it). To remove the switch.
  4. Remove the clip-on mains cable connectors
  5. Use a small screwdriver to press in the small plasic clip at rear of the switch and apply downward pressure to push the rear of the switch into the slot.
  6. Do the same at the front of the switch.
  7. Push the switch down and then rotate it sideways so that the terminals clear the hole. Reverse the process to install the new switch.

This Bosch fridge freezer was purchased in 2000; I have seen other Bosch models which look as though they have the same type of fitting arrangement.

I obtained the switch from Inter-Spares UK Ltd of Unit 4, Lincoln Rd Ind Estate, Leadenham, Lincs, LN5 0PE
