Frank Sinartra mode on...

I've got you under my skin...

Over the past month been doing a lot of plastering, anyway the past week I've had this terrible itching on the left?(just the left)most odd any the Doc say it must be down an allergy with contents of the plaster?

Anyone who's plastered a lot, had this itching. Feel like ripping me skin off or using course sandpaper on the itch.

Well "it had to be you", but then again "that's life"

Well they say "fools rush in" and with you it's often "all or nothing at all".

"That old feeling"? Perhaps it's "Strangers in the night" then.

"Try a little tenderness" but remember "nice 'n' easy does it" or "Something's gotta give".

At least you can say "I did it my way".

I remember when I was a teenager, I helped some relatives with some work on their house, including some replastering. After a while (a week or two? can't remember) started getting what seemed to be some sort of allergic reaction to the plaster - red rash in various places, arms, neck back i think

I get itching like this, but only between the fingers..it comes and goes periodically with no set pattern, so maybe I'm allergic to something too, but I doubt it's plaster given that I'm covered in the s**te from one month to the next, be it new stuff or old...have you been using fibreglass? - it doesn't bother me too much skin wise, but my eyes are streaming within ten minutes of handling it.

Where is the itching? - if it's around the arse, and worse at night, it could be scabies, my B-I -L got these by working in old houses

I've had me doubts it being plaster allergy? as I've been plastering for a few years now and this is the first time I've had this sort of itching.

The itch is mainly on the left arm between the wrist and the elbow, really bad itch and does keep me up at night. Lately the right arm has affectd me but not as much.

This is an old house I'm in and it doesn't look as if its been touched for the past 25 years and I have been ripping wallpaper off left right and center, pulling off blown plaster here and there.

OK, I'll buy it. Why would anyone's arse be affected?

Left what? Hand?

Plaster does nasty things to skin, particularly when you start out. You should be using a barrier cream on your hands. If you keep washing your hands whilst plastering, just use clean water and no soap (soap/detergent makes it worse). When you finally finish, wash your hands properly and use a skin moisturiser. If you forgot the barrier cream and now have dry cracked skin, rub vasaline in to your hands, and keep it on overnight, which really helps stop the cracking get any worse. Same applies to using cement.

As someone said here some time ago, skin problems are much easier to pick up than to get rid of. Avoid picking them up in the first place by using appropriate protection.

My B-I-L's arse was affected by scabies, had him up all night itching, they do affect other parts of the body too but the arse is worst affected according to the doctor...Also the wrists and upper/middle arms - Oi George, you've got scabies!!! - they are tiny parasites which live under the skin, you can catch them from sitting on old dirty furniture or handling old carpets/bedding etc, something which is done regularly by most builders when clearing out old houses prior to renovation...they are easily treated though..

Thank you Phillip. Have got some Epaderm and Hydrocortisone today off the quack.

I was trying to understand the connection to how this would relate to old houses and being clothed. I didn't know that the mites were that small...

Treatment appears to be similar to that for lice and crabs (no experience there either).
