Fein/Works vibrating tool thing looks useful - is it so in practice

I was looking to get one of these Fein "things".

I found another one (multitools?) made by WorkX - called a "Universal Hyperlock Sonicrafter 250W Oscillating Tool"

Also recall a while back that QVC were selling some such tool as well.

Just wondered if anyone has experience of using one of these things and/or suggestion as to which make to go for/avoid as they are not cheap.

fantastic tool, for cutting floorboards etc etc, I got the Bosch PMF with mains but Aldi and Lidl do one every so often for £30.

I use mine instead of a chisel quite often. But thats very expensive, £139

That's quite a good price for a real Multimaster... about £160 at Axminster.

The Multimaster Top is usually a better value package though since the blade collection you get with it would probably cost £150 on its own.

Is it f*ck. I paid £169 for that kit last year.

There is a vast difference between the Fein and the £30 things at Aldi. There is also a vast difference between them and the blue Bosch offerings.

It is a quality tool, at a good price. To the OP - buy it, then buy the blades from Aldi when they are in stock, they do fit.

I have a Fein and a Lidl cheapy. The main advantage of the Fein is the ease of changing or adjusting the blades as it is a tool free operation. All the others (IIRC) use some form of screw fixing. Of course if you'd not used the Fein, you may not miss this. ;-)

Are you saying blades from Aldi fit the Fein? They don't here.

Of all my power tools its the one used the least. Aldi have them for £30 now & then.

Aldi in Leeds have them at £20 at the moment. I've had one of theirs for several years, use it regularly. Excellent tool.

Yes, I've got the lever fit Fein, and they are fine. Maybe the older screw fit ones dont?

Don't use as often as you would expect ... but they do work well when required .......... blades are very expensive

Mine was not a Fein ... I bought a WORX sonicrafter, seems very well built, came with all accessories & good case.

They are indeed. I've been using these people, no complaints, as good as the Bosch, if not better.

+1 except that my cheapy was from ALDI (I keep it at my holiday flat)

The ones which come with an ALDI machine don't fit Fein. *But* ALDI's replacement blades are more universal and *do* fit Fein (as well as ALDI of course) and probably Bosch too.

That may be true - but when you *do* need it, it does things no other tool will do!

[Try cutting through a copper pipe in a tight corner, or cutting skirting board in situ].

They fit my Bosch fine

I've done that with a wire saw and a tenon saw respectively.... And I agree; give me an oscillating tool any day! ;-)

+1.

And the neatest way to go through kitchen worktop flush to the tiles.

That is so. I have the cordless Aldi multi-tool.

Ah. Sadly there's not an Aldi anywhere near here. Plenty of Lidl - but their blades don't fit the Fein. The Fein needs slots rather than holes.
