Depending on what sort of system you've got, it may not be a problem with the boiler at all - but with the external controls (motorised valves, thermostats, etc.) - which could be fairly simple to fix.

Can you tell us more about your system. Is the boiler a combi boiler, giving 'instant' hot water or is it a conventional boiler which heats a cylinder of hot water? If the latter, what external control components has the system got?

If its a combi, it sounds like your diaphram inside the diverter valve has a hole in it! - if you know what your doing you can check this by overriding the trip switch on top of it, but beware you have mains electricity & gas which can be lethal - if so the good news is a new diaphram is less than £20.
