Enlightened Central heating designers?

I need to replace my aged c/h system completely and wondered whether anyone knows of an 'enlightened' designer? One that embraces new products and technology. The last time I installed a system, some 20 years ago, I used a flexible plastic pipe system called Arbak which was so easy to use. Looking at the Hep20 pipe now and I see it comes in a barrier version - is this recommended for c/h pipes?

Any thoughts gratefully received

Rob

Have a look at the BoilerChoice FAQ (it's rather more than that).

For domestic heating installations it is normal to expect the installers or their company to make the design. (Likewise you would not need to use an electrical engineer to design the electrical installation in your house).

Not all installers are as familiar with some on the group with the more recent equipment.

I find myself getting involved in heating designs that are increasingly out of the ordinary (latest design project is for a mansion with 2 kitchens, 3 WCs and 8 bathrooms, 3 floors, 3 boilers and a commercial sized gas supply to supply the 120kW heating + catering kitchen.) but that's another matter.

You may get a range of replies which may be debated over at some length.

Hep20 barrier pipe is the pipe of choice for hidden heating pipes.

You'll almost certainly get the latest products and technology from our very own Dr Drivel. 'Enlightened design' is a different matter, though. ;-)

Yes. I use barrier pipe only, for all applications. It is slightly less flexible, but has significant advantages over non-barrier pipe.

In a central heating system, it is essential, as otherwise, you'll get loads of oxygen in the system which may overpower your corrosion inhibitor.
