Seen these things in B&Q that are like an immersion heater (I presume) that screw into the bottom of a regular CH towel rail.
Are they very good and where might I get one? (Can't seem to see them for sale in B&Q, just on a display model) TIA
We find ours very useful in the summer, when the central heating is off.
Try a specialist plumbers / bathroom shop.
They come with a special "T" piece. One end of the top of the T screws into the towel rail, in place of the lockshield valve, the element screws through the top of the T into the rail, and the lockshield screws into the third part of the T.
In the summer, close ONE lockshield valve but leave the other open. This prevents the water the element heats from circulating but also allows it to expand.
Don't forget to ensure the rail is earth bonded!

I got our towel rail rad from B&Q a few years ago, I could have had the electric heating element as well. They had to order my rad in as not a stock size., so I assume the same for the element

Got one in my Myon towel rail. Great unit. Especially great as the towel rad only receives heat when the boiler is running, not when the CH is running. I have it connected to a time switch that switches it on at the same time as the H/W in the morning and then off at about the time we leave the house during the week.

We had a water towel radiator in cloak room for years that was never plumbed up due to a solid concrete floor and difficulty running pipes to it.
When we redecorated, and wanted to keep the towel rail I got one of these elements (60w) and linked the flow and return together with some chrome 15mm pipe, through the T-shaped bit with the element in such that it would thermo-syphon abit, and filled it 90% full of water and antifreeze (80/20), heated it up with the vent screw slack then sealed it.
Been switched on now for 9 months and no problems at all.

They're usually laid out in long boxes near the radiators in B&Q. If not visible try asking for the plumbing guy or try a different B&Q - maybe you need the big 'Warehouse' style B&Q.
I've seen them in several B&Q, though thinking back, they were all w'house B&Qs.
The rad can get quite warm or even hot with these, so check you don't fit one over rated for your size of rad: Check the instructions in the box and/or radiator leaflets lying around in B&Q.
