For neatness I was wanting to glue some electrical flex into place, is this an acceptable practice? Presumably a non solvent based glue such as "Gripfill" should not cause the flex to deteriate!

IIRC Gripfil IS solvent based. No More Nails isn't.
Nope, you can get Gripfil in both solvent and water based, and same for No More Nails.
So is it acceptable to glue electrical cable using a non solvent based adesive, or is a water based adesive still likely to damage the cables insulation?
It's fine to do so, yes.
Hi,
Try 'hot melt' glue, or double sided sticky pads/tape. What are you trying to stick the cable to, and is it visible normally?
cheers, Pete.
Youre not going to nail it?
