How far above the blockwork should a lightswitch/socket box protrude?
12mm? 15mm? I'm starting to wire an extension and want to use deep boxes, I need to know how deep I need to sink them to avoid upsetting the plasterer.
The obvious solution surely would be to ask the plasterer, then you cant go wrong but if you dont want to ask then put at 15mm protrusion, plaster is about 18mm deep but may be a little less or a little more depending on the quality of the blockwork and the quality of the plasterer. If the boxes are a little to deep yuo can always get longer screws
5mm thick on blockwork? Not a chance. The technical specification for undercoat plasters from Carlite gives 11mm plus 2 mm finish coat. In a one coat plaster onto Block or broick then again a minimum of 13mm Onto plasterboard then 2-3 mm thick

If it's going to dry lined then 25mm is the norm. This means you can just screw a 25mm box straight on the wall. If it's going to be wet plaster then around 15mm protusion is about right.

I was waiting for someone to say something. OK, I'm a clueless f****it, but I don't use OE so it's not too bad!
In my defence, there was a temporary glitch with the Pipex news servers. Posts used to appear in 5-10 minutes. Last night they didn't appear after an hour so when this sort of thing happens I cancel the originals and resend, unfortunately Pipex had already sent them. I think they must have been working on the servers for a couple of hours last night as after this little delay my posts started appearing instantly.
