Hi all, I am average at DIY, and will try most things.
My Leisure LEVC54W is around 2 years old, a radiant 1700W front left hotplate element now only works on full power Is this a job most owners should be able to tackle, or is it best left to an engineer, most seem to have a £60 callout fee on top of repairs.
Any supplier of spares would be welcome too. Thanks, Mick.
First, it's not the element, it's the controller so that's £30 saved in unneccessary buying of elements or can be viewed as a diagnosis fee.
I would say most owners don't have a clue about anything so you'll have to judge your skills yourself. Replacmement is straightforward if you can open it up without a tinopener.
Spares: Check ebay. There are endless online spares stores too but their ebay outlets are caught in a vicious price war so same kit much cheaper.
It's the control that is bust (as the element is clearly working), these used to be called simmerstats but I'm sure they've invented a less helpful name for them these days as searching for Leisure LEVC54W simmerstat is less than productive.
I've recently used espares to good effect and their prices are good but no listing for any hob controls in their listing. They have a help contact page here:

so may still be able to help.
Google for cooker spares to find alternatives but be aware that not everyone in that business is your friend, usually best to shop around if you can find more than one source. More than once I've made an initial search then gleaned some part numbers from that and then searched again using the numbers obtained to get a result.
Most towns have a domestic appliance spares shop. They are usually very helpful in chosing the correct part even if they are a few quid dearer than buying on line.
The "simmerstat" mentioned above is a standard part (fits all cookers) If it has them that is, there seems to be doubt now. There are two sorts, one for grills and one for hotplates.

think they have replacement electronic gizmos these days. The old simmerstats, you could hear them operating, (A ticking noise). Can't hear them on my cooker.
