earth loop testers

Can anyone offer advice on where to hire an Earth loop tester and how much you would typically have to pay.

Also, any best buys ? TLC currently have the following on sale at =A3137 but are they any good and is there anything cheaper that has the basic functions needed. (TLC EZe Non-Trip Earth Loop Impedance Indicator =A3137)

i was going to disconnect both ends of each ring circuit from the consumer unit then test them with a £5 multimeter for ohms, earth to earth, N to N, L to L, (and then E to N, E to L, N to L) and I guess that this will find 93% of the faults.

Then pay a professional electrician to test the whole system using professional expensive test equipment to find any more complex faults.

isnt this a good idea?

It will find a number of faults, but it measuring something quite different from the earth loop impedance (or prospective fault/short circuit current - which most will also measure)

Might be for a one off, but the cost of a decent inspection will run not for off the cost of a basic set of test gear.
