dry verge fitting bodge?

The roofline verges of houses near mine (mine included) protrude by about 60mm from facias... I saw one neighbour have a dry verge system fitted ... took several days as as contractor trimmed back each tile and fitted the dry verge system "properly" (attatched to ends of battans?)... I saw another neighbour get their done in less than a day ... fitter simply pulled off any metal tile clips on the verge... then pushed on the dry verge cap and then screwed it on via a long screw through a hole toward the bottom of the cap into the pvc fascia (couldn't tell how deep it went (probably thru the upvc facia just into the wood beneath)... Fitter said this was a valid way of fitting them... it was certainly quick! ..it did look pretty tidy... one screw per dry verge cap... invisible unless you were directly underneath where you could see some of the screw lenght as the cap wasnt flush with the facia due the the depth of the tile overhang)....

Question ... is this a valid way of fixing dry verge capping? It seemed firm enough to not be blown off by the wind... but other than making the verge look prettier (than the cracked verge mortar) how secure does the dry verge system have to be...

If it is this easy ... I could tackle that myself (whereas all that tile triming that other neighbour had done put me right off)?
