Dremel or equivalent?

I think I need a Dremel but I don't know anyone who's owned one so don't know what to look for. Surprisingly there only seem to be about

3 current models (I thought there would be dozens for some reason) and not that many on eBay. It's going to get used for all sorts of stuff so a fairly comprehensive set of bits for it (including either a right angle adaptor or flexible extension) would be good to have.

The li-ion rechargable seems to be the 'default' now and it's about =A360. Should i consider any other model or manufacturer?

I've an early battery Dremel and it's virtually useless. I guess the modern battery ones would be good, although if I was to buy another, I'd probably go for a mains one.

The batteries will be knackered by now. They weren't even decent ones when new.

Yes - unless you really need cordless, mains is a better option. The 'modern' batteries won't last forever either.

Go for a mains Dremel, infinately superior to all the copies, perhaps a tool that you wont use often but it's invaluable when you need it. Incidentally Dremel is owned by Bosch which to my mind is a recommendation in itself.
