door ideas for wardrobe opening in bedroom

i've had an opening created in my smaller bedroom which is about 120cm wide, to be a kind of wardrobe. it used to be a cupboard accessed from the hallway.

i'm wondering what type of doors to use as the bed will be quite close. i've seen bi-fold doors and also doors that fold several times (homebase do them).

just wondering if anyone has done this kind of thing before. i think sliding doors wouldnt work because there isnt much space either side of the opening.

How about a concertina type door/screen?

can you send a link to some?

ive actually just seen some sliding doors in wickes and screwfix which will fit my 1200 opening. however the opening is only just over 2000 and not the 2100 screwfix doors or 2260 wickes doors. have the builders put the lintel too low???

Bi-fold doors are the best. You can have 4 x 300mm leaves - which will project less than 300mm into the room when open, and will also give access to virtually the whole width at one go. Avoid sliding doors - you can get to less than half your stuff at a time with these.

You can make bi-fold doors out of conti-board or similar, and can tailor them to the exact size to fill the opening. Kits containing all the necessary fittings are readily available.

This is the type of thing that springs to mind.

they call then partitions or room dividers but possibly they could be used for your purpose.

DIY shops and sheds usually have them - or even Screwfix

They contain the top channel, hinge pins and sliders to go into the channel, bottom socket plates and hinge pins, hinges and screws to join the leaves together, door knobs, etc.- in fact everything you need apart from the door leaf material.

You mean louvre doors? They're fine if they are the right size - but if they're a bit too big you can't take much off them without the risk of them falling apart.

You really need the four leaves - when put side by side - to exactly fill the opening (with the recommended clearances, of course). It always easier if you can make the opening fit the doors - but if the opening is of a fixed size, you need to make the doors fit that! In that case, I prefer sheet materials (conti-board, etc.) which can be cut to the exact size and then lipped.

Why doesnt the OP want a pair of 2' doors on hinges? You can even put such doors on adjustable hinges if you use several of them.

Re door material, whatever you like. Framed or sheet, melamine, pine, limed pine, leather, velvet, plywood with holes dotted about, whatever you want really.

IIRC, he said that single (non-folding) doors would project too far into the room and interfere with beds, etc.
