discovered in a Makita LXT torch.....

I'm mucking about making an adaptor to allow older Makita 18v kit to run on newer Makita lithium batts.

Bought an LXT torch and set about it. Inside I was a bit surprised to find a small pcb. About 8 resistors, a capacitor and another component with a hole thru middle.

I'll try to get a pic up but in meantime anyone care to speculate on it's purpose?

?Soft start to prolong torch bulb life??

TIA

Probably an inductor, and being used as part of oscillation cct

Would need picture to confirm

Excuse my ignorance, but why would you put one of those in an 18v non-led battery powered torch?

Thanks

Probably bulb different voltage to batteries.

Torches often have DC-DC converters to adjust voltage, but it needs a few more bits than that AIUI. No transistors?

Is there an unexplained black blob of plastic on the PCB? About 6 - 10mm square or circular. If so, that's hiding the active bit of a SMPS. The coil and the capacitor are the only bits that are too big to mount on the chip.

There'll be a tiny surface mounted IC, or maybe one under a black blob.
