Dimming street lights?

I drove Fords (Cortinas - ugh!) in the seventies - at the start and end of the decade - and that wasn't a feature of those.

ISTR my old Vauxhall Cavalier badged Opel Ascona had parking lights operated by the indicator stalk.

I think it was a Vauxhall-Opel thing, both of our 1960s Victors as well as my ex's 1980s Astra had that feature.

My father's 1963 Ford Zephyr had a switch to put on the offside lights only for parking. Had an interlock to prevent the engine starting when it was on. Cue a call to the AA from a technology challenged dad when the switch must have been caught by a knee.
