decking cleaner

Any advice on cleaning moss/mildew etc from decking, I know a pressure washer will remove most, but how do you remove the green stain/ left over prior to staining. Any products good for this?

There are a few products out there i know wicks do one, i'll leave it untill the Spring and wait for a few dry days (check forcast) buy a Deck Cleaner and a good Deck oil and then clean the deck leave it a day to dry, and then oil the deck the next day. It will take a day or two to fully dry (well mine did). If you do this every year it should last years.

Also give a a good power wash every few weeks in the spring/summer.

Pressure washer will remove everything, but you need to be careful. A rotary jet or 'pencil' jet can raise the grain and in extreem cases cut through any raised profile. The green stain is possibly from the timber treatment.

Most 'decking cleaners' work well enough, they contain bleaching agents like sodium hypochlorite or oxalic acid. Dilute household bleach works OK and is cheap, don't let either run/splash onto plants etc.

Take a look at

is a biodegradable cleaner to remove moss, algae, mould, mildew and greening from all surfaces including decking. It hasn't any harmful solution and so does not contain anything to bleach the surface. It can also be applied by low pressure spray so won't attack the surface.

Hope this helps.
