Hi,

I need one of these,

company above want the best part of a grand for them. They are carbide (tipped?) if I am not mistaken, about 25mm long and have a cutting head of about 10mm.

They are used for cutting plastics and need to have a rounded head.

Any ideas as to where I might buy such a thing or have one made appreciated.

Cheers,

Rick

Ha! A ball ended die sinking cutter. Fond memories of using them to make dies for aero engine fan blades. Try a toolmaker - they may have some surplus. What do you need them for?

Replacing the cutter in a lens making machine.

Do you really need carbide tipped? Remember - the effective cutting speed in the centre is zero. Not good for plunging.

10mm dia ball nosed end mill. Try J&L Industrial

in the sales flyers or ask them to send you the current ones - they are usually on discount - round about £22+VAT for solid carbide.

The shank looks a bit unusual - certainly not a typical milling cutter shank.

If it's for plastics, then I'd look to router makers rather than milling cutters.

In the UK, Trend would be a good start, They have a commercial division that does custom stuff. They also do a repalcable insert tooling system where just the loose carbide is custom made, so it works out cheaper. You could also get one from Clico, but it might cost more than a grand!
