Cut-Out and Isolator

Just for update/information. I just called E-on to arrange for a replacement Cut-Out (existing is metal clad) They were very helpful and informed me that this will be done FOC and someone will contact me to agree a suitable time. I then asked if they would connect the new Meter Tails into the Meter at the same time but they informed me that I would have to arrange this with "whoever I pay the bill to" so I then called Southeren Electric and again they were very helpful, informing me that they will send someone to install an isolator (which, by the way, was going to be my next question) between the Meter and the CU and then I could do what ever work was neccessary without having to trouble or involve them. We even agreed a date and time on the phone.

So thankyou E-on and Southern Electric for just making things happen ....

If Eon were any good, their lads would fit an isolator at the same time as changing the cutout - ours do !

I just assumbed that eon were responsible upto the Meter and Southern Electric (in this particular case) were responsible for the Meter onwards. Hence SE would have to fit the Isolator...

It's another one of those sodding great big grey areas since the government split things up. Everyone wants to offload cost elsewhere, so if they can say it's someone elses' problem, it's not coming off their balance sheet.

Sometimes the customer is best served by just doing it ! :-}

Spoke to Soon :-(

Eon sent their contractor to change the cut-out, which he completed with the added bonus of checking the Earth Loop imp (0.26 ohms) so now I don't have to use the default value of 0.8 when I'm calculating it for the ccts. Now the not so good:---- I asked him about providing a better clamp on the earth sheath of the cable for me to connect my 16mm earth tail. (The existing one is small and only has a 4mm earth tail) He said he couldn't do that and that I would be better off applying for a PME.. I pointed out that a PME would cost me =A370 and since I have a TN-S supply with a perfectly good earth why should I spend =A370 instead of Eon making proper provission for a 16mm earth tail.

your views appreciated ....
