corgi examinations

Anyone know of any way to get a look at typcial CORGI written exam papers (without doing a course) ? Also, someone I know has just left a plumbing company to start his own business. A CORGI bloke has to come round and talk to him. Any idea what this chat will be about ? Thanks, Simon.

Most probably to recruit them into corgi and get the annual fees.

He might even want to see the relevant exam certificate(s) but is probably more interested in getting the membership fee.

You mean ACS assessment papers?. Perhaps the CORGI man is coming to do a periodic inspection or to check up on his membership ?

OK, can anyone walk me through the process required for a person to become CORGI registered, i.e. timescales / exams etc. I want to know what I would need to know, due to my liking in trying to beat the system, or at least understand it. TIA, Simon.

decide which areas you will be working in and you will get an idea of how many elements you will need to take. Timescale will depend on your current knowledge. The training centre i attended provided "refresher" lessons in advance of taking the exam, but it is all on the basis that you have the knowledge in the first place, I think you may need certain qualifications in the first place before you can take an exam. My non-domestic ACS assessments took me around 2 weeks to complete with the refresher classes taken before each exam.

Not as far as I know. I do remember there were a couple of trick questions along the lines of "What is not the correct way to [do something or other]".

Prerequisite is NVQ plumbing (or domestic heating which is plumbing without the lead work & guttering). You also have to be working for a CORGI registered business, or something like that (I'm not sure of the details: I must have been one of the last people to get in before this requirement was brought in).

Alternatively I think you can do it as part of a full-time NVQ level 3.

I think it'll be like the visit I had after I'd passed my ACS and applied to be registered with CORGI but before they accepted me onto their register. The inspector for the region[1] came round to chat fairly informally and basically to check out that I did know how many beans make five and wasn't some clown who'd somehow slipped through the net. I recall one of the things he asked me was (he pointed to a fireplace in our living room) how I'd proceed if someone asked me to install a gas fire there. Apart from that I think he also asked me generally about what sort of work I did and stuff.

[1] in my case from the neighbouring region as our local inspector was busy.
