Core drill

Need to drill 100mm hole in brick wall for tumble dryer outlet. What sort of power of an SDS drill would be needed. Have an 850w Bosch and don't want to be renting a drill and bit if the Bosch will suffice.

Incidentally since when did tumble dryers become so deep ? Previous model fitted comfortable beneath the worktop with room at the back to exit the hose through the side wall of the utility room. New model is practically the full depth of the worktop so side exit of hose means the dryer sticks out by 75mm thus the necessity to dill new hole through the rear wall so hose can exit directly.

I put a 110 mm core drill through a concrete wall using a one+ battery drill. It took three batteries and about 15 minutes. I did swap the batteries every couple of minutes to stop them getting too hot.

When they had to compete with washer dryers doing 5kg drying loads I expect.

Buy a condensing model, with a heat pump if you have the cash.

I have done 107mm cores with my 750W Makita SDS. You have to take it gently as the clutch will let go quite easily at that core size, but I just about copes.

Maybe the OP does not have a 3mm deep concrete wall.

Maybe the clue was in his post (eg Need to drill 100mm hole in brick wall)

Many thanks to all for their input.

I have used core drills before but on the end of a Hilti drill so I'm aware of the dangers of snatch.

Will have a go this weekend.

The problem with the hose at present is that I have to leave room behind the machine to bring up the hose and then exit it through a side wall. The space available is very tight, in fact the machine just fits in width wise. Exiting the hose at the rear and out through the wall immediately behind the machine means I can drill the hole on line with, and level with, the exit hole on the dryer so I will need a minimal amount of flex hose.
