Why not just go down to your local 'weighing in' scrap merchant? - he only pays around £2.50 per Kg, he may sell old tanks to you for a few quid per Kg more

I always see a bunch of tanks whenever I go to the waste recycling centre (Cambridge mostly) - not quite sure what the rules are on them selling stuff on.
