Closing ceremony

I didn't see any TV cameras in Hyde park.

Annie Lennox seemed a bit weak compared to the others - but most of the rest were "ok" sound wise on my setup.

Agreed. although he was not miles away from how he was unlike say McCartney. The Who (what was left of them!) made a credible stab at it.

Yup, big voice...

He started off a little weak but once he got into it I thought he sounded pretty good. Far better than Macca at the opening...

Her voice is powerful, but she was rather out of tune in parts, which is rather a shame.

You could tell she was live (see above !). One direction were miming and sounded just like the record. The few I noticed: George Michael has a good voice and sings in tune, which is nice. Not sure if his second track was sung live, but probably was, with vocoder effect on the backing vocals (not to be confused with auto-tune !). Roger Daltrey's vocals weren't bad, but he can't get the higher notes as well as he could. Jessie J can sing well (see her early youtube stuff), but seems to have gone off the boil lately and tends to sing too many notes (some of which are not even notes). Not sure if she really fitted in with Queen. Nice to see the crowd join in with Freddie from beyond the grave - his voice was legendary of course. A lot of the other vocals were a bit iffy. And no sound seemed to come from Victoria Beckham ! Generally, singing perfectly in tune is quite a rare skill. Note: not all classical singers manage it all the time either, and you can fudge a bit when you use lots of vibrato. (Yes, I am a musician) Simon.

Probably better for the ones who have not been so popular in the intermediate years - means they have some voice left ;-)

Roger Taylor?

The fact they departed from their lorry and monitor speakers and were not apparently wearing ear pieces would also suggest they were miming.

Shame he went for a new number as a second track. Perhaps that was a condition of his appearing?

There seems to be some difference of opinion on that - some thought she was very good and others were less impressed. I suppose it made a difference having a female vocal in that role.

Not going to be easy in that environment either while prancing about and being trundled around in cars etc.

Coe started with - Your Majesty, singular, followed ISTR with Your Royal Highnesses.

Not necessarily they'll be hearing the backing track thru those else the delays would put the whole out of clock. The drummers in the first part I believe most every one of them heard a reference beat in order to keep them together, foldback IIRC is the term for it.....

Didn't the lyrics revolve around being alive? He almost wasn't last year...

I can't sing a note so didn't want to cast too many nasturtiums about individual perfs in public but there weren't many that escaped the lash in our private group. It was more the (sound) production that I wanted to slag off, so many early on just sounded so . . . hollow, not their fault.

Thought Rog did well for his age, banging it out and George owned the stage, as another pointed out, one guy, no on-stage backing or support and he nailed it.

Did enjoy seeing the spicers hanging on for grim life as their taxis whisked them round faster and faster. Still don't know how they climbed the steps to their platforms on the taxis so quickly in those heels.

Yup.

I assumed the Your Majesty was referring to Harry as he was representing the Queen.

There did seem to be some white knuckles... only one hand available and on silly high heels as well.

Each one had a uniformed bloke to give 'em a bunk up. Going up in high heels isn't as hard as coming down.

I knew some one would ask, simple observation of women tettering about on high heels on steeps or stairs. Going up is no great problem, coming down requires that the front of the shoe is placed carefully and securely onto the step, if the step is a bit narrow the foot has to be twisted and they end up coming down sideways... If there is a hand rail available that is normally gripped very firmly on decent and ignored on ascent. A few will remove their silly shoes before attempting to descend putting them back on at the bottom.
