Clearing plants/weeds from garden

Digging them out individually seems a bit of a difficult task. In fact, one is huge and is proving impossible to dig out.

Also, a lot of the area is covered by honeysuckle which is proving difficult to dig up. Put weedkiller and its all mostly dead but whats best way to clear it all.

Maybe a decent power tool to hire?

Angle grinder ;-)

Honeysuckle isn't a pernicious weed but its stems do have a rather high tensile strength. A decent pair of bypass secateurs and a bit of patience should easily see it off. Leave enough on th eotp to get a decent purchase and use a fork to loosen the roots. Easy!

Just digging it all up or cutting it all down will not get rid of, they will all re appear in a few weeks. You need a weedkiller that will enter the root system. If you want total clearance I would use sodium chlorate and then cover with black polythene. Are you wanting total clearance? What are your intentions to do with the land afterwards? This would determine what type of weed killer to use.

chlorate poisons for a year plus.

Glyphosate safer.

WD40 should work (well, it certainly kills grass).

Don't try the rotovator with Japanese Knotweed, tho. I'd never heard of the stuff at that point. Then it took 5 years of careful digging and roundup-ing to get rid of it.

Talking of Roundup, I went to the Canterbury B&Q for a litre of Roundup

3000. Web said they had 9 in stock. Got there - none. Eventually I was told it had all been nicked.

If the OP is in the UK then they might find it difficult to get that now.

As far as I'm aware the EU ban on it's sale as a weedkiller in 2009 and the storage of it by ordinary mortals from May 2010 applied just as much to the retarded stuff as the unadulterated. The properties that made it fun to make explosives with as teenage boys, are often cited as the reason for the ban but the real reason was for environmental damage. Hence I still think they will have a job to purchase some,I dare say there is still loads innocently but illegally stored in garden sheds and asking around gardeners you might find somebody who admits to having some, but they may well be keeping it for themselves or you find somebody working in industrial process where it may still be used who can nick you some so the OP might have to hang around a paper mill or tannery.

And I can't get honeysuckle to grow! Well, to be accurate, I can't get it to flower, and I've tried 3 or 4 different varieties in various spots.
