chrome plated copper pipe: bendable?

Well, I'm very pleased to meet you, Janet. Is "Janet" a very common name in China?

So, just to be clear, the chrome-plated copper pipes are copper, whilst the chrome-plated steel pipes are steel, and steel isn't copper? But they're all plated. With chrome?

I'm so glad you clarified that. I was confused.

Unless you're Russian, of course.

No. The chrome is quite stiff and cracks/shells off. The cracks are not immediately apparent until the copper beneath corrodes a bit. So you have to buy joints and elbows etc.

Makes the whole thing quite expensive and sometimes unsightly too.

It is possible. I bent some chrome-plated copper about ten+ years ago - and it still looked just fine when we sold the house earlier this year.

I did have to have a couple of attempts, yes - but that was largely to get the bends in the right place...

Since when did taking the piss out of spammers have to be "useful"?

(And I probably should add that the OP's question hadn't actually reached my server at the time, making it spam-out-of-context)

Ah, that'll be why the reply appeared out of nowhere.

Must be your technique or equipment harry, I have always found it easy to bend and keep looking nice. Never had chrome flaking off.

Not had that problem either...

Another reason to bend and avoid the need for elbows.

I expect it you try and make a really tight bend eventually something has to give and it might well be the chrome plating.

I agree. The old village hall tea boiler we retired after 25 years when its element started tripping RCDs and outlet tap leaking about the same time was plumbed in directly to mains water using chrome plated copper. It was bent in arcs of about 6" radius without any difficulty and showed no signs of corrosion at all after 25y in a kitchen environment. YMMV

Most mainland Chinese people I know take an "English" name for dealing with westerners. Off the top of my head: Dan, Norah, Echo, Crystal, and Sean (although that was very close to his actual name).

I work with a lot of people from Hong Kong, who all have names along the lines of Steve W T Chow, where the "W T" are their Chinese names.

I have bent 15mm chromed with a pipe bender. No issues. Maybe it has microcracked but it's not obvious and nothing has happened after 3 years. Certainly did not flake.
