Cheap LED lighting strips

run them dimmed. But it does mean a more complex ballast.

Youre probably the first person in the UK I've encountered that prefers cool white tubes. Why so many suppliers of such fittings include cool whites I've no idea.

Another approach is to run the LEDs dimmed most of the time, or even all the time.

We too prefer cool whites - got the TLC mini-fluoros in the kitchen, I think they are 4100. - Ah! "Supplied with 4000K triphosphor tube."

And we have cool-ish ones in the living room as well. They give a distinctly odd colour effect when viewed from outside the house, but from inside they are much to be preferred.

Why anything but warm white is so hard to hard... :-)

Now 2:-)

We have fully recessed twin 9watt fluorescent circular light fittings in our (low) kitchen ceiling.

The floor is red quarry tile lino, kitchen unit doors solid Oak so there is not a huge amount of light bouncing about.

Warm white tubes appear to give much less light than cool white.

I've always preferred cool white/daylight tubes. Can't abide the pink warm white ones.

If you use standard tubes, there is a vast range. With a reasonably consistent spectrum of output - unlike most standard 'colours' which are full of spikes and troughs. But you'd need a specialist to find them, and they're more expensive. Slightly lower light output too. But worth the cost given how long they last. I went for ones which matched halogen.

I find that warm white is nearer cream. The kitchen splashbacks are toughened glass painted white on the back. These plus cool white fluoros make for shadow- and glare-free working areas in the kitchen.

I've never found a slimline fitting that came with cool white tubes. Hence, having to buy separate tubes to replace the warm whites supplied with the units.

Yep, understand that 'naked' tubes held where you want them by Terry clips with the ballasts, possibly, remote would last longer than my integral slimline fittings.

Oh dear, sorry. Still, that clearly demonstrates my lack of affiliation!

All I can say is that the bod in the shop was really helpful.

On reflection, it did look as though they are quite a young venture. I'm sure that others will offer 'made to measure' LED strip lighting.

I have always felt that 4000 K is cool.
