Put it up on bricks so that it's the right height.
or use cushions.
Mine did that - well, it leaked slowly over a week or so. I dismantled it and found out that the gas strut could be 'disarmed' by taking it to one extreme (can't remember whic, but be careful as it can be literally lethal). Took out the strut and found down the back of the shed a suitable spring (pure luck) that was strong enough to have very little compression under about 85kg. A metal cylinder would be OK. The chair is now the correct height and doesn't go limp on me.
Depends whether you still need it to be adjustable. I always wanted mine as high as possible and, when it failed, I found a piece of tube the right diameter to fit round the extending pushrod.
I had to take the strut out to do that, of course, and it was a bit fiddly - but can be done if you stick at it.

bm,
Just had the same problem. As a temporary repair (may be permanent if it works) I have just 'dug out' an old Mini car exhuast clamp (must be around
40 years old) from the depths of the workshop and bolted that to the strut.Hopefully it will support my 18+ stone a bit better than the Jubilee (hose) clip that I fitted last night - if not, its off to buy a new one.

Put Bibles, Highway Codes, or similar under each of the feet to achieve the right height.
