Car Searchlight

Hi

Does anyone know where to buy those door mounted mini searchlights you see on 4x4's?

Tried Google to no avail, but I don't know how to describe them?

I remember reading somewhere that *moveable* lights such as this on a vehicle are not legal.

At least, I THINK I remember reading this.

Holy Lighting Owain! Not a bad idea :-)

I eventually found one of these - being completely fed up with trying to see house numbers after dark.

you still looking for a lamp to fix to your van?

They are often fitted to the rears of AA/RAC vans and windscreen replacement vans, so that the operators can see what they're doing at night. If you contact one of those organisations, you may be able to find out where they get the lamps.

The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations prohibit the use of movable lamps while the vehicle is in motion. Fitting them is not, in itself, illegal.

Did you look at the price of the reproduction moveable roof mounted rally ones that Holden sell?

I have been looking for ages for one of those, we used to have them when i worked for Southern Electric fixing Power Cuts. Absolutely brilliant, so I am about to order 2 off them.

sort of a tin or saucepan to hold it in, with duct tape and a couple of yards of wire bodged onto a lighter plug.

Hmmm... come to think of it I wouldn't mind one of them and I could use it at work with a second hand car battery from the same place. I wonder how much those lorry headlights cost.

I could even use it to toast my sarnies.

Perhaps looking for searchlights for lamping might be more successful. AIUI this is the term for transfixing - rabbits usually, I think - by a very powerful searchlight before shooting them. Usually seen in the form of a roof mounted searchlight with a handle descending into the cab of an open backed pickup that sports gun racks, Confederate bumper stickers etc or the like ;-)

Alternatively, a couple of small spotlights at the ends of a single roof bar might work?
