Last Saturday, I finally got round to fitting the extractor hose to the tumble dryer in the garage. That means we no longer have to suffer icy drafts from the door left open to let the steam out! Its been a long time coming really, starting from getting the kit from Screwfix about 12 months ago.

The first problem was that the instructions said I should drill a 112mm hole in the wall but Screwfix don't do one, nor does anyone it seems, but Tool Station have a 110mm TCT bit, so I tried that. That was fine for the internal breeze block wall, if rather laborious, but it would barely scratch the surface of the outside wall, so had to call a man in with a diamond drill in to do it for me, but he had only a 117mm bit. Since that meant a gap of only 3.5mm all round, I went for that.

Fitting the bits on the other hand went well except the stick-on bit that Screwfix give you to fit to the appliance wouldn't fit so I just had to use the spare cable tie instead.

Ah well - all in a day's (year's?) work I suppose.

David.

When I vent tumble driers I chain drill with my SDS then break out with a chisel. With a little care you can get a pretty neat hole, but since both are covered it don't really matter.

Doesn't pay to rush these jobs.................
