boiler in loft in winter

The solid state relay may not like mains unsolicited on the outputs, plus you are interfering with the internals...

I have never known a solid state relay worry, although I might be more concerned over the switching transients with turning an inductive pump off. You're not touching the gas side either.

I think that modding the boiler controls would still be frowned upon.

The manual says the boiler has a built-in frost stat that heats the primary circuit to 30C if the primary circuit water temperature drops to 5C. There is also a water fast-heating function that keeps the secondary heat exchan ger warm for quicker hot water - I could switch that on in the winter too.

The main issue is still the occasional fault that results in the boiler swi tching off.

inter it will be subject to very low temperatures. What precautions should I take to avoid problems ?

n intermittent problem that needs a power cycle to reset), it could freeze up I suppose.

it inside the heated envelope, but that might be overkill.

Well some feedback. I have built an insulated "airing cupboard" around the boiler - no insulati on between it and the ceiling below. 50mm PIR board on the sides, 25mm PIR on the top and front, a 9" brick wall faced with 18mm ply behind the boiler , 25mm PIR board behind the pipes.

I included a probed min/max thermometer to monitor the temperature inside t he cupboard from a room below. So far, temps are max 29.5C and the minimum

12.5C. I put an alarm at 35C and 6C.

Simon.
