best water softener?

The resin sac/bag/container in our elderly water softener split yesterday afternoon releasing its granules all around our pipework. Joy!

Once I've flushed everything through what's the current recommendation for its replacement? Two of us in the house, metered and so quite frugal in water use.

One working to the same principle. But why not just get new resin and a container? Fit a strainer downstream toprevent it happening again.

9 years old. No longer trust it. Atlantis reaction when I rang them was complete disinterest.

Getting older so would prefer one using block salt. And twin cylinder seems like a good idea.

Can you recommend such a strainer?

It's not the pressure vessel that has failed. It is one of the plastic strainers on the dip tube, I think (I'm vague because it's a long time since I had a softener in bits). The valve will probably still work, the remaining resin will still work. If you can find the spare part, it would be worth fixing.

Many of the 'manufacturers' just buy in the control valves resin, brine tank, pressure vessel, etc.. Autotrol valves used to be used on everything.

Pretty much what i'd expect.

If it's a metered valve, chuck it my way.

If you can't, you can't.

If it's a metered valve and you chuck it out, chuck it my way. I got my last softener free. It didn't work. There was a hole in the brine suction tube, so it didn't suck brine.

This sort of thing is what you want:

I usually size it one size above the feed pipe eg 22mm on a 15mm feed to reduce the effect of any partial blockage on flow.

Larger ones available but generally with female BSP threads so you need compression adaptors which are in very expensive packs at TS.

Best position for cleaning out is to fit on a horizontal pipe run with the access port pointing downwards or 45 degrees outwards for easy inspection.

Sorry, can't help you on softeners, nice soft water here :-)

Thanks. I was expecting something much more costly. :-)
