best w/screws for t&g floorboard - follow up

just a followup to my post 28-11-14 asking about best screws for floorboards. I used floor-tite screws (as mentioned) and found them very good.

No need for pilot holes and starting is easy. The wood will somtimes split-out if too near the edge of course.

Just a bit too blue for me :-)

I used the conventional Screw-Tite range in 4.5mm:

which is a tad larger but they to 4mm too.

The seem to offer the same features and the head size isn't too large on

4.5mm and under for flooring (if being covered).

I like the Screw-tite screws, but I wish they would use a decent box, they just fall apart in no time

Agreed, they are shit. I had meant to drop them a line to say how unimpressed I was with the packaging but I lost interest after taping them up.

My neighbour put down a load of square edged floorboards (new) with these:

or a very similar type.

They look very good - I thought he'd nailed them down with lost head nails, but he thinks the same way as me - wanted to be able to lift them easily but didn't want a load of obvious screws.

I would have worried that maybe used like a normal screw rather than as the manufacturer intended, that they might not hold very well - but they have been down a while with no problems.

I'm certianly stealing his idea :)

That's useful to know, I had seen them in the catalogues but like you I was concerned about them pulling through.

Likewise :-)

Marginally cheaper at toolstation.
