That sounds incredibly pompous and elitist.

I'm always amazed by the number of posh 4x4s in the Lidl car park. They probably transfer all the shopping to Waitrose bags before they get home.

You'll need a large estate car to get it home!

Bullshit, C&A left the UK long before Matalan appeared.

Not me, I take it you are referring to the label-conscious customers of Matalan?

Nop,not really, they have been stuggling financially for some time now.

Their customers appear to like tat then.

Umm hmm. Of course one has to like clothing in shades of mud and manufactured from polyester, because you'll not get much choice of anything else.

No, the fact that it is poorly designed around the tastes of chavs is more telling.

Indeed, the chav market has always been there and will always be there under one name or another. The Americans used to call them "hicks". Same demographic, same tastes.

Nope. Matalan has been around for 20 years, maybe not in your wasteland, but in civilised places, yes.

Shit Kicker in your case.

Exactly.

Hmm. Mine date back to when they were made by Falcom - and are mainly combination metric spanners. The finish is superb, and they are all a good fit. Now I don't abuse tools by doing things like putting scaffold tubing over them - if a nut is that tight I'll use my impact driver. ;-)

But I'm not quite sure who makes better? In the few contempory consumer tests I'd read they were as good as anything.

It's irrelevant. Any good quality hand tool like a spanner should last a lifetime unless abused. Now screwdrivers with a lifetime warranty would be some use...

I have never met Matt to threaten him with a sharp implement. It was definitely self inflicted. The specialist will see him soon.
