BBC local radio

The fact that you are putting people into those categories is discrimination.

What BBC comedians?

Another term often misused in this area is bigot. A bigot is someone who holds - sincerely - certain views about certain groups of people (often, but not always, races): the person may genuinely believe those things. (_Usually_ negative, but I guess you could have positive bigotry!) Thus the term "racist bigot" isn't always correct.

Alf Garnett was a bigot: he genuinely believed certain things. They _sometimes_ caused him to behave in a discriminatory manner. But his character was usually _written_ in a way that showed how ill-founded the beliefs _were_. He wasn't of himself a nasty person - just had what most of us now realise are false beliefs.

And the speech itself is so frequently misunderstood: the few times I've seen it (and the media are leery of showing more than a very short snippet), he seemed to me to be _predicting_ bloodshed (if certain policies/actions were continued or not), not _calling for_ it. The fact that many chose to use his words to push their own agendas wasn't his fault.

You really should stop listening to such people if it upsets you so much. You're reminding me of Mary Whitehouse.

And, of course, such bloodshed never happened.

neither actually did the policies that might have engendered it.

Of course such bloodshed HAS happened now.

That's the trouble when you look in a crystal ball.

There has been bloodshed between groups of humans throughout time. We're pretty unique in the animal kingdom.

Unique in this regard. Don't talk c*ck.

Why should I not listen to something I've been obliged to pay for all my life? Or to put it another way, why can't the money that's been taken from me by force of law be used to provide programming that's reasonably balanced?

What, you can see me? OK, I agree about the spectacles, but this dress is far nicer than any she ever wore.

You're like those cults that always believe the end of the world is nigh. No matter how many comets don't destroy the earth, the next one will. Currently it's Comet ISON that's Nibiru.

It's the cults from Pakistan I'm bothered about.

Agreed. It has to be a genuine consensus, not something forced on us my a clique.

Niether did the policies that might have prevented it more importantly.

Bollix. Many animal form packs that defend their own territory.

Done a little too subtley for some. I can still remember conversations the morning after those shows. Someone was bound to say, "He's right, you know!"

I suggest some of you learn a little about ants. They have warfare and slavery. There are cases where they move into an area and exterminate _everything_ that moves - far more efficiently than we do.

I read somewhere that, during a battle, everything stops if young ones need feeding. Often this is carried out by members of the opposing army. Seems crazy but....

You want crazy? Read up the Winky article about the bullet ant and initiation ceremonies based on it.
