Hi
We're in the process of house hunting and have come across a nice place with room for improvement.
The property is about 20 years old and has a partially excavated basement. The owner reckons the foundations are 3m deep all round, and the basement under the house us dug out to a depth of about 5'6" It is approximately 40m2 so we are wondering what would be required to turn it into a habitable space? We were thinking of a laundry/utility room, and a playroom for the kids. I know we'd need to excavate deeper down, add some sort of floor (floating concrete?!?), membrane the walls, and add a pumped drainage system. Does anyone have a ballpark for that sort of work? The fact that the foundations and external walls are in place should surely take out quite a bit of the cost of this type of conversion?
Thanks Marc
