B&Q prices

Yes, well they are now a consumer retailer, not a trade source, so one expects such things. Its happened in electronic components, compare Maplin with a trade seller. Brian

I go there a lot less since they "reduced" the closing time from

9.00pm to 8.00pm. Toolstation open until 7pm, screwfix open to 8pm.

Last time I bought screws from B & Q they were made of cheese in India or somewhere exotic.

Their prices for items do vary between shops as I discovered recently

Somethings are cheaper on a Tradepoint card than B&Q but you must order them out of their catalogue ..Screwfix style (not Gangnam!). They do the picking.

Noticed lately many items at Screwfix are about 30-40% higher than at Toolstation. They have developed their name in the market and Screwfix now seem to be ripping people off.

Well, they are owned by B&Q, so only to be expected.

Wickes seem to play "supermarket games" such as prominently displaying smaller, more expensive packs on aisle-end displays and larger more economical packs half-way down the aisle, so they hope you'll see the former and pick it, without walking to the latter.

Oh FFS, you're whinging about paying an extra 2.3p per screw.

Because you ran out of screws. Is that your customer's fault?

I bet you charge a damn site more than 10p per dozen

It must be 20 years ago that Maplin pretended to be a trade supplier. These days they are an expensive toys for boys high street retailer.

No, I'm pointing out a 450% difference in prices, idiot.

Who mentioned a customer?

I don't charge for screws at all, dimwit.

agreed.

If I need to buy capacitors or resistors, its Mouser, Digikey or Farnells for me......

However I had to make a distress purchase yesterday from Maplim. 1k resistors for my PIRs to set up double balanced wiring.

36p each in Maplins compared to 3p each from Mouser/Digikey/Farnells....

Last time I bought resistors from Maplin they were 2p each. But that was before they spent loads of money on shops and the internet and it was all done by ladies in Southend stuffing things into jiffybags.

Mouser and Digikey have a very high minimum charge - and also postage costs in the UK.

CPC is probably the best bet in the UK for small orders - often free postage.

Last time I used Digikey, it was free postage for orders over 50 quid. I know that's a lot, but good for 'stocking up'.

Always free postage these days...although it's possible it may not last.

No supermarkets play the opposite game - large seemingly more economical packs are actually more expensive.

Neither do I but it doesn't seem to help :-(

Morrisons currently have Muller yoghurts in 6-packs at two for £5. Six single pots work out cheaper and you get to choose your combination of flavours. Just one example.
