B&Q PPro Tools - More woes

I broke mylast of these tools, a rarely used circular saw, the power sweitch broke. I have a number of blades for the thing, which are all some weird size, so insted of replace, I thought Id get a new switch.

I phone up the helpline, apparently the makers of the tool will not send out just a switch as its against health and saftey regulation.

What a load of ball, many other too makers will send you a switch.

These tools, and the service really are junk. Oh and the warrenty is void, as I can't prove it broke from misuse.

While I totally agree with your assessment of the quality, I think you will be able to get a refund quite easily if you take your saw back to B&Q.

There is no such burden of proof upon you - take it back to the shop

Don't they (B&Q) have to prove it broke from misuse? You just have to demonstrate that it's broken down, which it has.

If you have legal protection on your home insurance and you really want to get snotty with them you can make a claim on it and it won't even affect your no claims bonus.

Or settle down at the customer service desk half an hour before closing with a thermos and sandwiches.

Its mankey old stuff anyway. Wouldn't give it house room. The PPro stuff I've had has been given away or chucked out!.....

Yeah right. I suspect that the reality is that they don't have provisioning of spares and this is just a cover story.

Most Health and Safety legislation applies to workplace environments and not for home use which is the marketplace for this range.

There are a few classes of workshop product that have to be type approved and tested under the terms of the UK implementation of the Machinery Directive. Table saws are an example of this. I can order any piece part for mine and fit it myself with no issues at all.

There *isn't* any service.

I guess you mean the opposite.

When did you buy it?

Did you pay by credit card and was the cost > £100?

If so, contact the credit card company because they are on the hook as well.

If you want service/back spares and a low budget power tool, try B&D.

Forget any low end powertools as there are no spares or backup.

Many others have just returned the power tool to B&Q and been given a replacement with no problems at all. I know a guy who took a PPro circular saw back without a receipt and had it replaced. Why do you want to mess around waiting for spares and fitting them? You'll also void the warranty anyway if you open it up.

I just bought an 18v Makita 560"lb drill, It broke halfway thru the first job. When I sent it back for repair, they returned it still broke. I had to return it for a second repair. It is cheaply made, the plastic flexs and the clutch slips too early. I'd get a DeWalt next time. "

... and when the warranty runs out?

It will no longer be under warranty. :-)

The saw is under warranty and the OP wants it fixed. My suggestion is that it is better to just pop down B&Q and get it exchanged instead of worrying about ordering parts for it.

The availability of parts etc is another topic which has been done to death.
