anybody able to do small lathe job ?

A simple job that has become a problem.

I posted a few months back for help to track down Greenhouse spares.

My Father has an Aluminum Greenhouse (Marley make) and the door is a sliding effort ... achieved by having a nylon or similar 'cone' that runs in a inverted U aluminum track.

Seems Marley went bust more than 25 years ago, and you can't but the parts (had many suggested leads here)

As it only needs to be some pieces of nylon machined up, wondered if anyone here as a nice Myford ML7 or equivalent that they could knock them up for me (at a price of course)

The item is pretty simple an inverted cone roller made of nylon ...:

in place by a 'T stud rivet, around which it is free to rotate, I could remove rivet and fix with a bolt.

Where are you? I have an ML10 that you'd be welcome to use. (Luton, Beds)

I know of two small friendly lathes in Norfolk and Essex respectively, as well.

If you can get the nylon I reckon you could fashion something by fitting in in to the chuck of an electric drill and working it from there. I have done this before for a couple of small pieces that didnt need to be

100% accurate. Possibly using a rough file while it is rotating in the chuck. A bit clumsy I know and would probably take a lot longer. But as a last resort.

I'm assuming I can buy a piece of Nylon on eBay.

All these guys with nice Lathes ... wish I had bought a "Dean Smith & Grace" Lathe when I had the chance - nowhere to put it at the time.

Anybody out there willing to do this job, I'll pay & get the Nylon ?

I have an ML7, It looks a simple job, but no internal dimensions on your drawing. I'm in North Shropshire. Are you near? Don

About 20 years ago I needed to replace some slides on a grapple loader, I got some plastic from these people and have never needed them again ( still going strong till I parked it up 2 years ago) but I hope they are just as helpful now.

Can't you just drill a hole in a bit of scrap nylon, put a nut and bolt through it, and stick it in the drill? Hold a file against it for a few moments and you'll have, for this application, a sufficiently accurate bit.

Come to that, why bother having it turned? Most automatic sliding doors only have a block of nylon or similar as a bottom guide.

Whittle it with a hot knife.
