Another Potterton Suprima problem

Any ideas welcome on this one?

I have a 6 year old Potterton Suprima 50 that has had the PCB (revision 11b !!) replaced nearly 18 months ago due to lock-out problem. Last few months have been having problems with it just not getting hot enough.

Both hot water and rads get lukewarm even though both cylinder and room stats are turned right-up.

The boiler fires up and runs for a minute or two every now and then. Control on bolier is flashing green which the pcb manual suggests that it has reached the required temperatue, but if a turndown either of the stats then I hear then click-off, so they are definitely asking for more from the boiler.

I thought it was the 3-ways valve initially as actuator was on last legs, but replacing it has made no difference. Cylinder stat is new too.

Pump, or blockage somewhere?

The heat is not leaving the boiler which suggest the water is not circulating properly.

The way to tell whether it is a block/pump or sensor problem is to feel the flow pipe as close to the boiler as possible, if it's hot then there's a blockage if it's not then it's the sensor.

Poxi-Batterton will probably want £30 for the sensor (they do for the Lynx II) but you may be lucky.

Just had thermistor replaced and had the same problem. Reset the pcb by holding the reset button in for 10 seconds a couple of times - Whacked up thermistats on tank and roomstat and it still just kept cutting out as though at required temp.

Boiler outlet is only lukewarm - certainly touchable (though pump is bl**dy hot - sounds like running okay), so I called up "Poxi- Batterton" Heatteam to ask advice. Theyre sending their own engineer out next Monday -no questions asked (yet).

The irony was that 3 hours after making the call, my rads and water were scorching hot. Turned everything back to normal temps and it has gone back to being only lukewarm again, so I shall see what they have to say on Monday.

I thought it might be air in the system, but doesnt explain why it went wrong suddenly after 18 months and worked for a bit the other day. I replaced the 3-way valve after it went wrong originally in any case, so had to back flush from mains.

My money is on it being the pcb.. .=2E or rather, I that hope Baxi's money is

I know the pain your feeling. I have a suprima 80, similar problem, water never gets hotter than 55-60c. The book says it should reach

80c. I have tried everything, even replaced the temp sensor. I have teken other measures, insulate loft, cavity wall insulation etc.

Global warming - don't mind it.

Could be that the boiler is too small for the radiators, if it's never getting up to temperature.

Which water do you mean - just to eliminate a pile of tail chasing.

I have a temp dial meter connected to the output 22mm pipe coming from the boiler.

Just to let all know that I had Potterton HeatTeam come in FOC and replace the PCB after I had this flashing green led and no hot water or rads!! The temp was getting up no higher than 39% before saying it had reached required temperature. Is one of their many known problems.

Give them a call 0800 3282747

Now works a treat
