Alpha CD50 opinions reqd

was looking at WB 40kW combi but now think that the alpha cd50 might be a better bet because of the built in store. Has anyone got an alpha ? Are they a good boiler ? Are there any downsides to it ?

It ought to perform better than the 40kW for short term loads, and not as well for long term ones. Note it has a flow regulator that will reduce the output flow rate as the internal store is exhaused, this is presumably to stop there being a large drop off in temperature. Of how much value this is may be debateable, since if you are mixing the hot with cold at the point of use, you will still get a drop in temperature.

can't answer those...

It looks better that their previous non condensing ones in that the boiler output power is that much more (32kW rather than 24), so it ought to give a more reasonble delivery of hot water once the store is exhausted.

If you are fitting it yourself, one thing to note is the minimum lift weight is shown at 90kg!

We've got an Alpha Boiler and are very happy with it, although we've had to get them out twice to fix problems under guarantee - once the fan packed up and then there was a small drip where a washer had failed, which doesn't sound to good for a boiler under a year old, but the customer service was excellent (engineer said 9am and 9am it was). Didn't fit the boiler myself, but helped the plumber and it all looked pretty well designed for an easy installation. They also to a wireless thermostat system as an optional extra, which looks quite nifty (though I think it might be a bit pricey).
